The King’s regrets echo strongly throughout the entire White Palace, but this is the room that really shows you just how much sacrificing his children to the void hurt him, even if it’s not something that he would likely have admitted to in canon.Īs for the challenge of the White Palace itself- I’ve seen some people claim that it represents a bossfight against the Pale King, and I agree wholeheartedly with that. I can’t quite describe just how visceral of an emotion that evokes, but whooo boy it is not to be sneezed at. Going in is very reminiscent of entering a burrow, and the nursery itself is small and dense with the White Lady’s foliage, giving it the impression of a nest. Not only that, but it is a well-disguised tunnel (the entrance does not make the clicky noise that other breakable floors in the game do) that has one of his statues beside it, almost as if he is guarding it. There are many hidden rooms in the White Palace that pertain to important aspects of the Pale King’s life, but this room is hidden away directly under his throne, where he likely would have spent a great deal of time. I’m also once again struck by how primal the nursery is, in a way, with elements from both parents coming into play. Unlike the Radiance, who screams out her disdain for the Knight in most of the enemies she possesses and has few environmental or visual cues to her name, the Pale King is a character whose personality and mindset is set visually through the environment, so it very well could be his chair for the nursery, carefully pushed to the corner and turned away so that he wouldn’t be forced to look at the empty cradle, and so those who walked in on accident wouldn’t immediately recognize his presence in the room. Then recall what Lemm said about him being a reclusive figure, lmao).

Then again, almost all of the storytelling directly involving the King’s personality compared to the Queen’s is environmental, so it might not be (for example, compare the Queen’s station- a beautiful open area that used to be full of travelers, connecting Greenpath to the Fungal Wastes- to the King’s station, which is not only a dingy little thing hidden away in the corner of the City of Tears, but also has a false entrance to help hide it. That might be a bit of a stretch, though, because all I really am going off here is the fact that it looks like his throne, while the other chair is obviously supposed to belong to WL. Just did the White Palace again to revitalize my hatred for PK so I have writing fuel when I realized that the object on the left was likely a toy box D:Īs for the two things on the right, my guess is a dresser and maaaaybe a chair for PK? One that had been turned around and pushed away from the cradle, so that the person sitting in it wouldn’t be able to see it.

The world seemed vast, empty, ringing with quiet in a way that made it dizzy.

Let me know if you want to be added to the taglist, and as always, thanks for reading! Notes: This is my first posted fic so I appreciate any and all comments, likes and replies, both here and on AO3! This is fairly lore-neutral so it should be understandable for both fans and non-fans.
